Finally finished my realistic gouache painting assignment. I had to paint from a photo, using only CMYK colours to build up as close of a likeness as I could. The photo isn't mine, but I cropped it to my own liking, which adds my personal interpretation to the work. All the same, I by no means take full credit for it. I just wish that I could find out who the original photographer is.
My next step in the project is to take this image and create an application for it. I was thinking something of a commentary image on what is happening to Canada's formerly protected water systems, or an editorial image to symbolize what one goes through in abuse.
Aww, thankyou. I was working from a photo reference, and Mrs. Nuttall helped us all learn gouache for the project We also got better at scaling up a picture's size by hand. I now appreciate projectors and digital scaling so much more, you don't even know XD
Watercolour is more fun for me, because I don't have to worry so much about thickness, and can usually lift pigment off the paper if I am using a watercolour paper. Also, watercolour is better for retaining the transparency that lets the paper shine through. However, gouache lets you build up stronger colours and layer more, as well as you can go opaque!
Thankyou! I learned a lot about veil painting and soft layering of the colours to produce the exact hues needed. It's surprising how poor the piece looked until I got to the final stage where I could punch up the contrast by going back in with white and black.
